Chemistry Lesson
So my Chemistry lesson was based around the carbon snake. So my group and I talked about the carbohydrates and the types of structures which are the ring structure and line structure. Something interesting I learned about carbohydrates are that there are more types of them and not just one. Such as a monosaccharide, a diasaccharide and a polysaccharide. They mean the amount of carbohydrates are in the actual thing. Such as 1 for mono, 2 for dia, and 3 for poly. One thing that was challenging was presenting in front of the class and making the presentations interesting. Our presentations seemed kind of dragging and I feel like it took too long.
Concepts
QUANTUM MODEL: So the quantum model is the building blocks toward everything. The quantum model is a type of atom but just more complexed. It was different shapes and different orbitals. We use this in everyday life because we constantly interact with the atoms. Something challeneging about the quantum model were the different types of atoms. Such as the "State", "City", "Street Name", and "Addres". Which all realte to different types of atoms and how you can tell the difference between some.
CHROMATOGRAPHY: So chomatograhy is the separation of a mixture by passing it in solution or suspension or as a vapor as in gas chromatography through a medium in which the components move at different rates. We use this in everyday life by the analysis of blood or cloth samples. WHat was challenging for me was the fact that we just had to wait. Waiting is something that I'm realld bad at.
HYDROPHOBIA/HYDROPHILIA: So if an object is hydrophobic that means that the object has a certain molecule that causes water to repel from it . If an object is hydrophilic, that means that it LOVES water. It causes water to be absorbed quickly. We interact with this in our everyday lives by looking at the flowers. A lot of the flowers have a certain chemical that makes it very hydrophobic (thats why there are little dropplets of water on the petal. Something challenging I found about this was the molecular interactions and the different wats they interact.
DECOMPOSITION REACTION AND CATALYSTS: A decompasition reaction is when a molecule gets broken up into different elementsthat make up the molecule. A catalyst is something that speeds up a reaction. We see this in everyday life by our decompisition of nutrients in our body and an example for catalysts are Hydrogen peroxide will decompose into water and oxygen gas. Two molecules of hydrogen peroxide will produce two molecules of water and one molecule of oxygen. A catalyst of potassium permanganate can be used to speed up this process. Adding potassium permanganate to the hydrogen peroxide will cause a reaction that produces a lot of heat, and water vapor will shoot out.
FERMENTATION: Fermentation is a process used to produce the finest wine; many of our basic staples, such as bread and cheese; and pleasurable delights, including beer, chocolate, coffee and yogurt. An example of everyday use is when we eat basic foods such as bread, yogurt, kumbucha and more. Something that is chalenging about fermentation is the whole prosses of fermentation.
